While we were at Mnemba Island a while ago, everyone was telling us about the rare sightings of the Ader's Duiker, so we were on lookout all the time! We were walking from the boathouse on our second last day when we noticed this duiker. At first we were not too excited as we thought that it was a Suni which is seen often at Mnembe but when it turned...

Seeing these gorgeous Suni antelopes at Mnemba Island is definitely one of the highlights. The high population makes it very easy to see them and you can get some amazing photos of them.

As a birder, I got some "lifers" at Mnemba Island like these Sooty Gulls that I have never seen before.

After dinner, we decided to take a walk on the beach to look for any activity. I noticed tracks in the sand and immediately knew that a green turtle was busy laying her eggs. We looked around for her and there she was. She was just finishing laying and started covering the hole up. We watched her for about two hours and realised that this will be one...

At Moonvalley-Aquarium, just 5 minutes away, todays dive was a dive with BIG stuff. First a huge female turtle with two remora's attached to it swam away right in front of us, to show up again a mere two minutes later, resting on a sand patch while getting cleaned by cleaner wrasses. A couple of minutes later we found the biggest ever ornate spiny lobster...

Mnemba island is famous for its large population of Sunis, the smallest species of antelope. With no predators our Sunis enjoy a very relaxed existence wandering thier island and getting hand-fed fresh leaves by our guests. These fantastic images were captured by Olga Von Rosen who was visited by this pair every evening.

Although many of our guests visit Mnemba for the incredible diversity of species to be found below the water, the variety above the waves is pretty impressive too! Huge flocks of sea birds can be seen at either end of the island, thier number swelling every evening. Flocks can contain 7 or more species. These photos were taken by Olga Von Rosen. Thank...

A large green turtle came to lay her eggs this morning but unfortunately had left it quite late. By 9.30 she was still walking back to the water as the tide had gone out. We were able to tag her and measured her carapace as being 1.09m long and 0.99m. It is unusual to be able to see this magnificent journey during daylight. An unreal sight, hopefully...

During the nightdive on the 4th of March, at Kitchwani, we saw an unusual amount of undulate moray eels as well free-swimming as poking their heads out of holes in the coral. A juvenile giant moray was joining that bunch as well. Suddenly an unfamiliar snout was sticking out of a hiding place and I went closer to investigate who it belonged to. It was a...
