Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is perched on the edge of the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. It lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which covers more than 8 000 square kilometres (3 100 square miles) of pristine African wilderness.
Nature's Clean up
Three days had passed since the death of an old bull Elephant on the Crater floor. Vultures and hyenas were constantly feeding on the carcass without any jealousy of any sort, which is quite unusual.
On the third day we drove past the carcass again, but there was not much left. All of the hyenas & vultures had moved on, leaving behind only a few large bones and the bull's mighty tusks. It just made us realize how amazing nature was, the fact that a few hyenas and vultures could almost completely make a huge Elephant bull disappear.
