NGALA LIONS
2012 Ngala is back in action and living up to its name. Ngala means 'Lion' in the local language – Shangaan. In the past year or so there has been a big power struggle within most of the prides that we see on Ngala, so we haven’t seen the numbers of lions that Ngala used to be known for. But things have settled and in the last week we have seen 51 different lions on Ngala. With the biggest being a pride of 27, which is almost unheard of consisting of 6 adult females, 3 dominant males and 18 youngster. The other ones that were seen is a coalition of 9 males between the ages of 3 and 4 years and two different prides of 10 and 6. Its has been a breath of fresh air to see all these lions. Also the potential of a pack of wild dogs denning on the reserve again.
