African Wattled Lapwings are rarely seen at Ngala, so it created great excitement for me when this individual posed, showing off its beautiful details around its head and neck. The bird possibly arrived because of some isolated early rains we have had recently.

The Hyena den is providing some fantastic sightings, especially as the older cubs get even more inquisitive. An exciting update is that another female has given birth to 3 more cubs, bringing the total to 7 cubs all between the age of 2 and 8 weeks, 4 sub adults and 3 adults.

We were heading towards our western boundary, hoping to find lion tracks, when out of the corner of his eye, Fanny our tracker, spotted something… Wild Dogs. One of the Guests, Cameron then exclaimed, “There in the Tree!” To our astonishment there was a leopard in a tree as well. In the chaos the leopard dropped what was left of...

It was 12 oclock when we went out on drive and it was also after the morning drive. I decided to go and drive the river bed, because the morning drive was quiet. While we were driving in the river bed I spotted a male lion,on baffalo kill. I stopped and gave them the binoculas to look before we get closer, and we tried to get closer and he stood up, slowly...

I had guests come from Kirkman's Kamp and they had seen everything except wild dogs. It was early morning and I went straight to the den. When I arrived at the den, there was only two pups instead of three and they stayed for about two minutes before they went back to the hole. We stayed for almost an hour, but with no luck.

The pack had left their den sight, and were hunting in the direction of the northern boundary. We arrived just in time to watch them harass a warthog, chasing the pig into its underground home. The pack soon lost interest and moved off to the boundary. We stopped and watched them in the distance not able to follow. Suddenly a tiny steenbok, was flushed...

We parked at a waterhole and sat watching this African fish eagle when suddenly it took off and swooped down towards the water. It was a cold morning with no wind and the water, undisturbed, looked like glass. Its talons disappeared under the water and appeared again with a small fish. It returned to its perch where we left it feeding on its latest...

We spotted a clan of hyena near to the road and followed them to see if they would lead us to a kill. It was early in the morning. To see them so active was no surprise at all. They lead us to an old termite mound where a few lay down. One female kept sniffing around the opening to the mound and then started urinating repeatedly around it. This behaviour...
