A few members of a heard of elephants moving through the area had either only one tusk or non at all. Our ranger Vincent also noted that the one elephant’s tusk look broken. Why this has occurred we do not know but hope somebody has an explanation.

The Okavango Delta at this time of the year is filled with water and thus we spend some time on various of the channels, either on the mokorro or on the motor boat. These trips were so peaceful and relaxing and we saw lots including day and night lilies, crocodiles, hippos and lots of birds, including malachite, kingfisher, African jacana and fish eagle.

Being in the Okavanho Delta, is not just about the animals and the water but we also found the most beautiful sunsets. Thanks for the staff of Nxabega for providing drinks, snacks and song at these sunsets.

Meaning of wild – in the original nature state, lawless/disorderly Meaning of watch – on the look out for something. The baboon on the termite mound kept an eye on all the other animals, who were feeding alongside the airstrip in the early morning hours to ensure that the airstrip is orderly and available for landings. There were a journey of giraffe, a...

2 days ago the lions of the area killed a young giraffe. After such a big meal they were lazy and kept to the area. On the afternoon drive we found after we heard them growl. They were lying in the rays of the setting sun close to a water hole. We were about to leave the lazy two when we heard some noise in the distance. An elephant was approaching the...

Heading towards the lodge after the afternoon/evening game drive we found tracks of two leopards on the road. Our ranger, Vincent, said that these were very fresh as one of the other game vehicles said they had been on the road earlier in the evening. We followed the tracks closer to the lodge. At this stage we could already see some of the tents. The...

What looked vey much like a log at first i think both myself Coal and Joe (tracker) had a feeling of what it might be but still did not want to think out aloud just in case either of use were horribly wrong, on getting closer to the supposed log it became apparent that our suspicions were correct and what we were were indeed seeing was a wild dog!! We...

Nxabega has been extremely productive in terms of game viewing over the last few days. Yesterday morning we set off with our ranger Coal and Tracker Joe and not even two minutes into the drive we bumped into a single elephant bull feeding away at the lush vegetation. After having viewed him for the best part of twenty minutes we said our goodbyes and...

While on a morning mokoro ride we spotted the most beautiful Painted Reed Frogs and not one had the same pattern, this was just one of them.

During a morning mokoro expedition (at about 09.30) our spotter, MK, saw the owl in a tree on one of the smaller islands north of the picnic site. MK called Dux, our ranger, who took us to the island. As we arrived the owl took off and flew about 300 metres to a neighbouring island where it settled in the higher branches where it watched us as we came...
