Ottawa Pride Cubs Found!
At the beginning of the afternoon drive we decided to re-track one of the Lions from the Mapogo Coalition that had walked through the camp the previous night. But we were not prepared for what we found! The Ottawa Pride (comprising of two females) had cubs about three months ago in a neighbouring reserve, and we had been waiting for the females to bring them out of their inaccessible den site near the Sand River. Within the past four weeks we found tracks for the females coming in to hunt on our reserve, but still no tracks or lions to be found. This afternoon we were rewarded for our patience. We spotted a Lioness of the Ottawa Pride just north of the river! As we drove around the bushes there was even more for us! The male was present, both Lionesses and Seven cubs! It was fantastic! They were very relaxed and in no time decided to jump on and tackle the male! These wonderful photos were taken by Mel and Di. Hopefully these new faces in Exeter Private Game Reserve will be seen more often in the future, and we hope the Lionesses will teach the cubs their western territory and show them the abundant game present that they can hunt.
