&BEYOND Exeter Lodges
Exeter is situated within the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, renowned for having the best Big Five game-viewing in South Africa, if not the world. The Reserve is famous for its incredible leopard sightings. The Sabi Sand leopards have grown accustomed to safari vehicles, thereby permitting close up sightings and extraordinary photographic opportunities.

Predator Feast
We set out on our afternoon safari to follow up on Vultures circling and settling in trees just north of the camp. On arrival at the scene we found a dead female Rhino who had been killed by a male Rhino. This was evident by the puncture mark from a horn in her lungs. After sitting for a while the vultures began to feed and it wasn’t long before they were joined by a clan of hyena. It has always been one of my favorite sightings to watch Hyena and vultures interact at a carcass. The frenzied hyena and noisy vultures very soon caught the attention of a nearby pride of lions and it wasn’t long before they came to inspect. The hyenas were chased off by the two lioness’ and the vultures soon settled in the nearby trees. It will be a couple of days before they see anymore food. The carcass will provide us with amazing interaction, a feature of the viewing in this area.
