Baghvan
Baghvan is aptly named after one of India's iconic symbols, the Bengal tiger (bagh - tiger and van - forest). This enchanting lodge is located on the edge of Pench National Park, a dry deciduous forest of predominantly teak trees and meandering jungle streams.
A typical Central Indian teak jungle, Pench supports a rich variety of wildlife, including the tiger, leopard, wild dog, gaur, sambar, chital and brilliant birdlife. The Park's open habitat not only lends well to wildlife viewing, but it also offers striking views of the area's sheer beauty. This national park received international recognition from Rudyard Kipling's classic tale, the Jungle Book. |
RUSSELL'S DAY OUT...
My guest, Maggie, asked me during the hosting if we have any snakes in Pench National Park. I told her about the big four. As I got back to the library our official snake man, Kaustubh, came out with a big bucket and his snake hook, and gave us the news that he had gotten a pair of Russell’s vipers, which he caught in the switch room. We saw the pair and kept the bucket in the library so that we could release it the next morning after the game drive. The next day I told Maggie that if she is interested we can give her an orientation about the Russell’s viper and also that she could take pictures before we released them. I also called my other guests and showed them the Russell’s viper. They were very excited to see the pair and got some good pictures while Kaustubh was handling the snake. Then we released them far off in the buffer zone.
