Two immature saddle billed storks have been spotted at the same pan for a while now. We tried to locate the nesting site but had no luck. Sadly we are down to 1 and are not sure if the other has just moved on or fallen foul to a predator looking for a tasty snack...

Driving back from the boat station just up stream from the lodge , I realised that the planned route wasn't an option as the road was under water. Whilst turning the vehicle, a movement in the long grass caught my eye. I stopped and waited... A few minutes later this young hyena emerged and came closer to see what I was up to. Such a curious teenager,...

Setting off on a drive one never knows what to expect but always hopes for that special sighting. The plan was to head to the other side of the concession but along the way we found a super relaxed male leopard walking along the road. We turned off and watched him settle down in the grass. A little while later he got up and started walking. The very...

Who needs to go out on drive when the wildlife comes right to your doorstep at the lodge! Elephants passing through, hippo's between the rooms at night, birds everywhere. Last night a hyena chased an impala right past the dining area in front of the guests! Then there are the monkeys ... hang on to your muffins, they are a firm favourite with our...

Submitted by Shaka. On 19 January 2012, heading out on afternoon drive we saw some wild dog tracks. We followed them for about 30 minutes, knowing that the dogs move very quickly. Vultures at the top of a tree caught my attention and then I saw the dogs lying under an acacia tree. For about 15 minutes the dogs stayed under the tree, giving us...

Walking along the pathway between guest rooms I saw what I thought was a piece of wood on the ground. I reached down to move it out of the way and only then realised that it was a pair of mating chameleons! I dashed to my office for my camera but by the time I returned they had separated. I managed to get a few fun snaps of this one giving me the beady...

Birdlife at Sandibe is in abundance all year round and one of our favourites is the White Browed Robin Chat. Most mornings he joins us for breakfast, perching on chairs or on the railing close by and singing his heart out.

Written by Shaka. The afternoon game drive started out a bit quiet (by Sandibe 's standards!) but we saw hippos, impala, giraffe, wildebeest, baboons, tsessebe, red lechwe and of course lots of birds. When we got to the pan there were 10 beautiful male kudu and 6 zebra in prime condition who fought amounst themselves putting on quite a show. A...

This story was written by Shaka, Sandibe 's newest member of our guiding team. Around midday I was at the airstrip waiting for a plane to land. I saw a young cheetah chasing an African wild cat on the airstrip. I was so pleased to see the young cheetah trying to kill, but then the mother cheetah came out from the bush and the wild cat stood still...
