For anyone who has never been to this lodge, I would really recommend it. It is beautiful. The desert is amazing, and our guide Fillon really brought the area to life, showing us the most amazing timeless places in this desert wonderland. One of these shots is from our day trip to the Sossusvlei dunes, and the other shows the shear beauty we were...

While walking on the ridge above the "cave" west of Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, I obserrved these very distinctive markings on a black limestone rock adjacent to a Klipspringer fecal deposit and scent mark. They are Klipspringer hoof scuff marks. Compare the size of the markings in the second image to the fecal pellets. On later hikes we observed...

We were lucky enough to spot a beautiful leopard on the rocks in full view during our afternoon nature drive at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. The Leopards have apparently not been spotted in over a year, so you can imagine the excitement when we saw her. Very well camouflaged in the Rocks, we had to look twice to make sure our eyes were not playing tricks on...

The pair of Spotted eagle owls found the permanent home in the tree next to a.t.v(quadbikes) parking. This pair is probably the most photogragh owls in the desert as they are use to the people around them and also allow our guest to take photos from close range.

This was a rare sighting of a secretary bird near Bushman Koppie. Its name is derived from the Arabic "saqr-et-tair" meaning "hunting bird". Miles Paul

We were walking on the sand dunes at night looking for scorpions with UV flashlights and noticed that the white body stripe and eye ring of the web-footed gecko were fluorescent. These little lizards are very beautiful and easily spotted in UV light. Miles and Dorothy Paul UV image by Dorothy

With our guide, Fillon Gaogaseb, as we were returning from an early morning drive to the Petrified Dunes and had turned the corner near ‘Hyena Water”, we spotted a brown hyena on the gravel plain near the mountains. The hyena appeared very relaxed and seemed unconcerned about our presence, and at one point while we were watching, it turned and walked...
