Dorothy and I saw this sidewinder (Bitis peringueyi) in the sand dunes southeast of the Petrified Dunes on an early morning sand-walk. It had obviously just eaten (probably a lizard) and was unable to move by the usual side-winding method, thus leaving this uncharacteristic track. Over the last several days we have had an experience that has been interesting and witnessed by a number of us. Birds are now prolific after the good rains in the desert this year. Bird have become prolific and raptors such as Black Hariers, Red-necked Falcons and Booted Eagles have come in to hunt them.
