Ngala Private Game Reserve has the privilege of being the only private reserve in the world-renowned Kruger National Park. Opulent Ngala Safari Lodge pays tribute to a bygone era of elegance while Ngala Tented Camp is chic and modern.
SPIDER HUNTING
The golden-brown baboon spider is not a common arachnid, but is found at Ngala. They can grow to a size that will fit into the palm of your hand and live in burrows in the ground. They normally come out in the evenings to go hunting for insects, but they are not immune to predation themselves. There is a family of wasps called Pompilidae that specialise in hunting spiders. They paralyze their prey with a sting and then drag their cache to their nest where it is sealed into a chamber with an egg from the wasp. The helpless paralyzed spider then becomes a meal for the larvae.
