Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is perched on the edge of the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. It lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which covers more than 8 000 square kilometres (3 100 square miles) of pristine African wilderness.
THE BABY BRINGING BIRDS!
The Migratory flocks of different bird species are arriving from Europe, escaping the winter weather. Perfect timing as the November / December short rains have provided a wide range of food, enough to support those who have survived the long journey.
On our game drive today down to the crater floor we experienced the arrival of the white stocks and abdims’ stock in very large flocks. At around 5:00 pm when we were about to leave the crater floor we reckoned they were at least 50,000 [fifty thousand] - White stock and Abdims stock. At times when these flocks were flying overhead it was like a huge dark cloud, such a breathtaking feature. I don’t remember ever having seen such a huge number in the Crater before.
Oh how I would like to see this flocks of birds. I'm amazed how these creatures can survive the cold and the hot season. It's nice learning about birds. Can you please post pictures next time? It just adds something to the content.
