THE OPPY YOUNGSTER
Approximately 3 months ago one of the better known leopards at Ngala, the Oppy Female was killed by another female leopard over a territorial dispute. She left behind a female cub of about 13 months. It was touch and go whether the youngster would make it, not having perfected the art of hunting under her mothers' watchful eye. Three months down the line I’m happy to report that we are still seeing the youngster, possibly surviving on smaller prey like squirrels and birds, and on one occasion was seen sharing a kill with another young leopard. With only about a month before the Impalas start lambing, hopefully this leopard will become another legend at Ngala.
