The Rarest Of All?
If one mentions the name Pangolin, few guests have ever heard of one…let alone seen one. Most of the time they are brushed off as an Armadillo looking animal who eats ants and termites. So you can imagine my surprise when I met my new guests the other day and they requested to see a Pangolin. I smiled nervously and tried to link as much as I could and to find any sign that this amazing animal exists. You certainly could not imagine the surprise when we actually found one. A lion sighting nearby had spotted one lying in the grass. We were over there in a flash to view (arguably) Africa’s rarest animals. After some time the Pangolin relaxed, and he did not roll up completely into a ball. We studied him with our binoculars…his sharp scales and pointy noise and the odd hint of movement as he prepared to continue feeding. This is only the second sighting of a Pangolin this year and one which I thoroughly enjoyed sharing with appreciative guests.
