The "wise" bulied by "wise guys"
We thought we had had the best of a morning drive and decided to celebrate what we had seen, in a nearby river bed with some champagne and orange juice. As we pulled up to the shade of a massive Ebony tree in the river bed we noticed a huge Verreaux’s Eagle Owl fly out from a nearby tree with something large in its talons. While we were trying to see what it had through our binoculars we saw a Dark Chanting Goshawk (one of Exeter’s Star Birds) dive bomb and mob this beautiful wise bird. The owl just could not take it anymore and tried to fly to another tree, unfortunately he dropped his kill in the sand nearby. On closer inspection we saw that he had killed and half eaten a Guineafowl. The Dark Chanting Goshawk would not let up and as if things could not get any worse for the Owl a pair of African Goshawks joined in on the action. After a harrowing 30 minutes of irritation from these three wise guys the owl decided to seek out a more peaceful refuge and flew away leaving myself and my guests high on adrenalin. Another great morning in the Sands.
