Two drives, two kills
I've got first-time safari goers with me and it's a great pleasure to see such enthusiasm. Our morning adventure began with us following a lioness and young male lion. The pair hunted a huge kudu bull through dense reeds flanking the river and chaos erupted - lions charging through thick bush, the kudu crashing on ahead giving us glimpses of his spiral horns with each bound, us close behind. My guests watched in disbelief as the two predators leapt on the huge bull's back and brought it down in a drainage line, in full view. What a morning! On our way home we passed a female cheetah with her five offspring. They looked like they hadn't eaten for a while so we decided to see what they were up to in the afternoon.
Back out in the bush later, we caught up with the cheetah. The cubs had spotted a herd of impala. They chased them and the herd scattered - the cub leading the hunt turned back towards the antelope after the others had abandoned the chase and was rewarded with a lone impala, confused and separated from the rest. Making the most of this bonus, the cheetah chased the impala back towards the female and remaining cubs and they killed it right next to us.
We couldn't have asked for a more exciting introduction to the bush - I just hope their next safari is just as rewarding!
