Kirkman's Kamp, with its spectacular views of the unspoilt wilderness and the Sabi Sand River, is regarded as one of the best loved lodges in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. A well known historic camp, originally built in the early 1920's Kirkmans Kamp celebrates the atmosphere of an early South African lowveld homestead.
Wild dogs come pack
The wild dogs have been around again for the last few days. This time only four dogs from the original pack or 22 have been running around the Kirkmans area. This morning was exceptional as I was still on my way to work I came across four dogs running along in the road. I quickly left the dogs to and fetch my guests from the lodge. When we returned to the area there was no sign of the dogs and after an hour of looking we began to give up hope. Juts then we came across some fresh tracks and began to follow. Not far down the road we found the dogs lying in the road looking well fed and covered in blood. After sitting there for a while we noticed three lionesses coming from behind the dogs. The lionesses ran in and the dogs shot up and started barking but kept a safe distance from the lions. The dogs continued to run along the road away from the lions to a safe refuge under the shade of a Marula tree
Awesome Duncan!
Was this the Charleston Pride chasing the wild dogs? Is the rumors true that one of the Charleston lionesses is lactating?
Well Cheers,
