Wild watch – Baboon on the lookout
Meaning of wild – in the original nature state, lawless/disorderly
Meaning of watch – on the look out for something.
The baboon on the termite mound kept an eye on all the other animals, who were feeding alongside the airstrip in the early morning hours to ensure that the airstrip is orderly and available for landings. There were a journey of giraffe, a troop of baboons, a flock of maribu storks and a dazzle of zebra. Many animals can be found between dusk and dawn at the airstrip, as the area is very open and they feel save from predators. But predators have also realised that this means that a visit to the airstrip could be a guaranteed meal. Game drivers are often going past the airstrip in search of predators or their tracks which are then followed.
