The locations of these migratory camps are carefully plotted to coincide with the documented movements of the annual Great Migration as it traverses the Serengeti plains. Having secured some of the Serengeti’s best semi-permanent campsites, we are able to bring our guests as close as possible to the migration or resident game. These campsites are all prebooked for &BEYOND’s use, allowing us tremendous flexibility in moving our camps according to the expected migration movements.
Wildebeest cross Mara river for 3 Hours!!
Open this sighting to see more photos.....With breakfast and lunch packed, we set out for a whole day game drive. An amazing morning drive led us to the banks of the Mara river at around 11 am. As we arrived, there were about 500 wildebeest gathering on the banks. We waited for a while and eventually one Gnu got brave and crossed half way and we thought... this is it but it turned around and went back. Eventually another Gnu took the lead and they crossed the river. We thought at that stage that the 500 wildebeest crossing was fantastic until we saw a line of them on the horizon and we knew we were in for a phenomenon here. They came running down from the top of the hill and what looked like a few hundred, turned into a few thousand. They looked like ants moving their nest. We watched them cross the unforgiving river for two hours and they carried on for another hour. There was a crocodile that eventually decided that it was hungry and could not give up this opportunity, so it glided in, took a snap and grabbed a meal. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life. It is definitely unexplainable and a once in a lifetime sighting.
